For the type of services I specialise in, it's generally best to keep everything straightforward when it comes to scoping and agreeing the support.
How it might work is:
1.We have a call or even better a meeting for you to brief me on your situation; as part of this you may need to provide me with further reading and even to sign an NDA (which I can provide)
2.I produce an outline of how this could translate into a costed work programme, including any critical dependencies that could influence the success of your commission
3.We conclude light-touch contractual, billing and other formalities then get started.
Timescales
This could happen in a matter of a few hours if circumstances require it. More typically it would be a few working days. For more demanding commissions, especially with more reading and thinking, then you could be looking at a week or so.
"But I want a full proposal and pitch!"
It can be made infinitely more involved than the steps above, especially if there's a competitive process, but I prefer to find ways that clients can get real experience of what I do and how I work on a low-commitment basis and then choose to continue that relationship if they wish.
It's less time, hassle and expense for all sides than going through the full 'beauty parade'.
I understand the proposal and pitch process is important for assurance, but I can also provide this though referees, testimonials and case studies.
However, if it's important to follow a formal process, I can do that too. I appreciate that public sector and charity organisations in particular may require this.
Please choose 'accept' so I can track visit numbers! Thank you very much.
